Well, it's over!! Yippee!!!! Sorry to all those out there, that I might offend, in advance. What stress this year, and I am not sure why?, because I jump headfirst with both feet into the Christmas Spirit. Do you spend time each day reading articles and books related to the products you support? Have you set up a virtual lab using VMWare, VirtualPC, or Xen so you can experiment and test your solutions before you offer them to your users? Knowledge is power and the more knowledge you have, the more you'll be empowered to delight your users with relevant, accurate solutions.
 

Now this is where the problem comes in. How can you prepare your sales people to perform, for example, appointment setting work on business prospects that are highly technical in their knowledge? Remember, you need people who can represent your company well in the Information Technology market. One way to make your job really difficult to do is to use your sales skills on people who are not keen on your pitch. Key decision makers in need of managed it services want to hear specific solutions to their problems, not just some generalized idea about how your business can help them grow. But really, what kind of marketer will you need, a technical one or a sales-oriented one? Why not have both?

When you're an entrepreneur it's not your tech support I.T expertise like your business degree that people care about as much as the story of how you got to where you are today. The truth is often our passion for wanting to help others is rooted in something very personal to us, so it's incredibly important to share that reason why. I've also realized that it's okay to share our mistakes - they are an important part of our truth so don't be afraid of sharing them. It's from our mistakes that we are much better teachers.
